Syrian artist Noor Bahjat presents eleven artworks in her solo exhibition that explore the concepts of memory, urban landscapes and identity.
‍
Bahjat depicts fragments of Damascus from her memory through layered compositions, symbolic images, textured surfaces and powerful contrasts, particularly with light and shadow.
‍
The works are painted and composed in a way that invites the viewer to step closer and examine the surface of the work while also stepping back and taking in the image, the haunting cityscape as a whole.
