KUSAY BADER

Kusay Bader’s artistic practice stretches across sculpture, painting, and design, forming a rich and varied tapestry of creative expression. His work is marked by an enduring commitment to exploring form and space, where each medium offers a different dimension to his vision. Graduating from Damascus University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, Bader laid a solid foundation that has shaped his diverse career.

Beyond his personal artistic pursuits, Bader has been deeply engaged in fostering critical dialogue around art. He played a key role in the Sharjah Award for Fine Critical Research, serving as a member of its General Secretariat. His responsibilities included preparing and editing, tasks that allowed him to influence how art criticism evolves in the region, supporting the development of nuanced and rigorous discourse.

His commitment to the arts also extends to his work with the Department of Culture in the Government of Sharjah, where he served as an artistic editor for visual arts activities. In this capacity, Bader helped shape cultural programs, promoting creativity and nurturing emerging talents within a vibrant and growing art scene. His work here was not just administrative but deeply involved in curating and guiding projects that reflect the cultural identity of the region. Through this role, he helped bridge the gap between traditional art forms and contemporary expression, fostering a dialogue that honors heritage while embracing innovation.

Kusay Bader’s engagement with art is not confined to creation and curation; he has also contributed to the field through journalism. Writing for the Maraya supplement of Al Bayan newspaper in Dubai, he offered thoughtful reflections and critical perspectives on contemporary visual arts. His journalistic voice has helped broaden public understanding and appreciation of the arts, bridging the gap between artists and audiences. By contextualizing artistic trends and individual works within larger cultural and social frameworks, Bader’s writing enriches the conversation around art in the Gulf and beyond.

As a member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Bader remains at the heart of a dynamic artistic community. This connection provides him with a platform to exchange ideas, collaborate, and support fellow artists. His participation in this network reflects a broader commitment to building a strong cultural ecosystem, one that encourages dialogue and fosters creativity across borders. Through workshops, exhibitions, and community events, Bader plays an active role in nurturing the next generation of artists and ensuring that the arts remain a vital part of regional life.

Throughout his career, Bader has balanced the roles of creator, editor, critic, and cultural advocate. This multifaceted involvement enriches his own practice and amplifies his impact on the regional art landscape. His ability to navigate these various spheres speaks to a deep understanding of art as a living, evolving force. By engaging in every aspect of the artistic process from conception to critique, he ensures that his contributions resonate far beyond the physical boundaries of his studio.

In weaving together these various strands of his professional life, Kusay Bader crafts more than just objects or images. He shapes conversations and communities, contributing to an evolving narrative where art serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation, individual expression and collective cultural identity. His work invites us to consider the power of art not only as personal creation but as a shared cultural journey that enriches and transforms society as a whole.
