Abdessalem Elfalah, born in 1984 in the quiet town of Mezzouna in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia, has followed a path where tradition merges with innovation, and reflection intertwines with creation. Now based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, his life and work are imbued with a continuous dialogue between the tangible and the intangible, translating lived experience into a visual language that resonates far beyond borders.
In 2010, Elfalah was awarded a professorship in the plastic arts at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Nabeul, Tunisia, marking the beginning of a journey devoted to nurturing both art and thought. Four years later, he earned a master’s degree in Science and Technology, and today he is pursuing his doctoral thesis in art theory at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Tunis. Each step of his academic path informs his practice, embedding intellectual rigor within the emotional and material textures of his work.
Elfalah’s art has been exhibited widely across Tunisia, France, and the United Arab Emirates, transforming gallery spaces into realms of reflection and dialogue. His work has been presented at the Gallery of the National Library in Tunisia (2017 and 2018), Kan Art Space in Sousa (2017), the Cultural Complex Neapolis (2018 and 2019), Neapolis Cultural Foundation (2018 and 2019), Yosr Ben Ammar Gallery (2019), and Galerie Patrick Bartoli in Marseille, France (2019). Each exhibition becomes a moment of engagement with light, form, and atmosphere, inviting viewers to dwell in the delicate tension between abstraction and traces of lived reality.
After relocating to the United Arab Emirates, Elfalah continued exploring the interplay between environment and emotion, particularly through his participation in the “COVID Conversation” exhibition at Tashkeel, Dubai, in 2020. These works respond to unprecedented global circumstances while meditating on resilience, connection, and the capacity of art to illuminate shared human experience.
In 2021, Elfalah was awarded the Cultural Foundation Art Residency in Abu Dhabi, a recognition of his unique artistic voice and his dedication to expanding the boundaries of contemporary art. His paintings and installations resonate as visual essays, where every brushstroke, texture, and composition invites contemplation. They weave together memory, identity, and place, embodying a poetic engagement with the intimate and the universal. Through his art, Elfalah creates spaces where the viewer lingers, feeling the quiet intensity of a life devoted to observation, understanding, and creation.
